Mode of Payment

Ngultrum (Nu), the Bhutanese currency is equivalent to the Indian rupee. There are notes of Nu 1, Nu 5, Nu 10, Nu 20, Nu 50, Nu 100, Nu 500 and Nu 100. Although ATMs and Credit cards are becoming a mode of transaction in Bhutan only American Express, Visa and Master Cards are accepted. Travelers are advised to carry Travelers Cheques or US dollars for personal expenses.

Payment Procedures

The Royal Government of Bhutan will clear your visas only upon the receipt of payment four weeks prior to date of arrival in Bhutan. During peak seasons it is always better to reserve hotels rooms and Druk Air Flights few months in advance. Once the trip is confirmed, instructions will be sent to you.
